God Room

This past spring I was asked to be a member of the Covenant Christian School Board. I took some time to pray and think through the decision and agreed to be a member.

June's meeting was my first meeting. I was to be an observer only which was ok by me. :) During this meeting I was overwhelmed and feeling very inadequate. I was in a room with a lawyer, business owners, accountant, business manager, and a physician... then there was me, a stay-at-home mom with no college education. As I was feeling inadequate and overwhelmed I was also asking God why I felt that it was the right thing to do to be on the board. The only thing that kept coming to my mind was "Prayer". That's all He kept saying to me.

So over the next few weeks I pursued God in this. What does he mean by "prayer" and the board? Over a few weeks he made it clear that there is to be a focus on prayer within the board and the leadership of CCS. Without it, the school will not thrive!
It's a harsh reality, but so vital to understand.

This month's meeting was on Monday night. This was my first official meeting and I was asked to start it off with devotions. Guess what the topic was?! ;) God is so good. I shared Psalm 34, read a section from Rebel With A Cause by Franklin Graham, and bits of my journal and specifics of what God has been speaking to me.

Here is what I read from Rebel With A Cause. It's powerful!

"God room" is when you see a need and it's bigger than your human abilities to meet it. But you accept the challenge. You trust God to bring in the finances and the materials to meet that need.
"You get together with you staff, your prayer partners, and supporters and you pray. but after all is said and done, you can only raise a portion of the resources required.
"Then you begin to watch God work. Before you know it, the need is met. At the same time, you understand you didn't do it. God did it. You allowed Him room to work."
Bob was on one of his rolls. His eyes sparkled and the words tumbled out: "Many times I went to places like Vietnam, where I'd see people who needed help. I would commit a hundred thousand dollars for the project. Then I'd go home, knowing that Samaritan's Purse didn't have the money. I certainly didn't have the money. But I believed that through praying and trusting God, He would provide.
"You know, Franklin, you always have to have 'God room'!"
"'God room' is when you have seen a need you believe God wants you to meet. You try, but you can't. After you've exhausted all your human effort, there's still a gap. No matter what you do, you just can't humanly bring it about. That's when you pray and leave room for God to work. You watch God close that gap.
"Nothing is a miracle until it reaches the area where the utmost that human effort can do still isn't enough. God has to fill that space ... that room ... between what's possible and what He wants done that's possible. That's what I mean by "God room"."

We as a board are already being challenged to have "God room"! I'm excited to see God move!

you may be "just a stay at home mom" but you've got life experience and wisdom that "the professionals" need to hear. you'll bring a new (and likely necessary) perspective - more than just business. Because you're willing to say it out loud, God will use your mouth to bring that. :) Proud of you.
