He Is Still Good

The goodness of God is unmistakable.

In our culture today we use the word good so loosely. We use it to describe how we are feeling, how we look, how our day is going, etc. I was reminded today that the word good was first used by the Creator of the Universe when he created the earth and us. When he created people, he used the word good to describe his creation. In His eyes we were good. God said his creation was good, and that included us.

God never uses the word good loosely. When he says it’s good, it really is good. He created us in his image and He is good.

Then there was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Evil entered the world and that’s when our perception of good isn’t so clear anymore. Because of his death and resurrection, he restored to us the capacity to see him as good, through revelation.

He is outrageously good.

Most of us have gone through some tough times … death, divorce, illness/disease, etc.  How do we view God when we go through the fire? Is he still good? Is he the reason we have to go through the tough times? Where is he when we’re in the midst of our pain?

I know that in the midst of my painful times, He is still good! He was, is and always will be good! He has shown me over and over again that his goodness and kindness towards me is unwavering. Even during the times when I’m angry with him or whoever is in my way, He still loves me with his good heart.

“A powerless life is a life caused by forgetting who you are,
who He is, and His plan for your life.”

Who are you in the midst of your trial? Have you found your identity in your situation? Have you claimed it as your own? I know that I did at one time. I claimed the lie that “I am a widow. I am a mother of a disabled child. I am the mother of 3 children without a daddy. I have to be strong.” Even though these are true statements in themselves, the lie is that I needed to claim these as my identity. This is not who I was and am. God did not create me to be those things. He created me to have my identity in Him!

Isaiah 43:1 says, “Do not fear for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine.” Even as we go through the can seem like impossible times in our lives, our situation does not change the truth of this verse. God’s purpose for us is not to find our identity in our crisis or to believe that we are named by our crisis, but by who we are in Him.

Romans 8:38-39 speaks of how nothing in this world, nothing we go through, can separate us from the love of God. Nothing.

Do you know the goodness and love of God? Have you seen his goodness? Have you experienced his goodness? Why not ask Him to show his goodness to you? The truth is … God is still good, no matter your circumstances. Like it or not, He is still good.

Can you feel it?
Can you see it?
Can you touch it?
Can you smell it?
Can you know it?
… because it’s there!
