Wheelchair Basketball

Yesterday was a great day!  We were able to spend the day with our friend Paul Schulte and some of his friends and teammates.

We had contacted Paul to ask him when he was going to be in the area again.  The timing was perfect with him being in Indianapolis this past weekend.  Him and 5 other wheelchair basketball players were in Indy to play some exhibition games over the NCAA Final Four Tournament weekend.

He invited us to spend some time with him on Monday.  We had lunch with him at Circle Center Mall and then he measured John Michael for a new everyday chair.  I'm so excited to see his new chair and for him to have one that works so much better for him!

From there we walked over to Conseco Fieldhouse to play basketball.  It was amazing to see my son (and husband) play where the "big boys" play!  He had so much fun!!

In the atrium of Conseco Fieldhouse.

John Michael with his friend Paul.  We have grown to love Paul and his wife Meghan!  She is just as great as he is!!  Love her!!  We have so much respect and appreciation for all that they have done and continue to do.  Paul and John Michael's stories are so similar it's almost scary.

Paul and Meghan just had their first baby, Brady, in March!!  We are so excited for them to have moved into this new venture in life.  We missed Meghan and Brady this weekend but hope to meet Baby Brady soon.

A great man from The Hartford organized a scrimmage game with some employees of The Hartford.  Clint was invited to play along with them.  He plays with The River City Rollers on a regular basis and enjoyed playing with these guys and gals.

We met Opie (again) and got to know him a little.  What a great guy!  He's full of energy and loves the game of basketball.  He also cares for kids with disabilities and strives to help them be the best they can be.

Some of the players showed us some drills before playing the game.  I have to tell you that these athletes are truly amazing!!

I love how they push themselves to be the best they can be!  Not only are they amazing athletes, they are kind, compassionate, and really do love and care for the people around them.  They each clearly have had to overcome so many obstacles to accomplish all that they have had to work so hard for.  The determination in them is so inspiring.  They truly are amazing human beings!!
