I'm reading Cure for the Common Life by Max Lucado. This book talks about discovering your "sweet spot" in life... meaning your purpose in life. What has God created you to do?
Chapter 12 is my favorite so far. This chapter talks about spending time with God and following his call for your life. Here are a few lines from that chapter...
He (Jesus) said no to good things so that he could say yes to the right thing.
Christ repeatedly escaped the noise of the crowd in order to hear the voice of God. (Luke 4:42-43)
Follow the example of Jesus, who "often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed." (Luke 5:16)
God rested after six days of work and the world didn't collapse. What makes us think it will if we do? (Or do we fear it won't?)
Follow Jesus into the desert. A thousand an one voices will scream like banana-tree monkeys telling you not to. Ignore them. Heed him. Quit you work. Contemplate his. Accept your Maker's invitation: "Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest awhile." (Mark 6:31)
My goal is to do this more often. It's always so refreshing to do this!
Tonight I had a special blessing from Ben. Here's how it went...
"Mom, I have to spend time with God because Miss T said that I have to."
"That's good, Ben."
"Yeah, she said that we need to do that every day. She said that we can pray, sing, or read the bible when we spend time with God."
"Ok."
"But Mom, I need Bekah to turn off her music and for John Michael to leave me alone because I need it to be quiet."
"Ok. Do you want to go downstairs? I'm getting ready to vacuum so it may be better to be downstairs."
"No, not really."
"Ok, I will do our bedroom first and then you can use my quiet-time chair to spend time with God."
"Ok. I will wait for you to be done in the bedroom."
Once the room was ready he didn't hesitate to spend time reading his bible ... with God. :) He spent a good 1/2 hour doing this. My heart was so filled!
Thank you Miss T for encouraging my son to spend time with God!! You are a blessing!!
